ST. THOMAS — A violent daytime physical altercation fueled by an apparent love triangle on the crowded Coki Point beach bar has left a local woman with a severe facial laceration requiring multiple emergency stitches, according to explosive court records obtained early Tuesday morning by the St. Croix Sun News.
The subsequent arrest has triggered an immediate identification crisis for the Virgin Islands Police Department. In a rare, urgent addition to the official probable cause dockets, Detective Brian Delano Bedminster of the Criminal Investigation Bureau informed the Superior Court that the jailed suspect, identified as Kamiatawene Aijoma, flatly refused to provide her Social Security number, admitting it belongs to "another name".
"I would like to charge the correct person and not an alias that she is using," Detective Bedminster wrote in his official officer notes. "I would like the courts to assist with obtaining the correct name or spelling along with her social number so that I can properly do my job".
The Beach Bar Escalation
According to the sworn probable cause fact sheet submitted to the Assistant Attorney General, the bloody incident unfolded on Sunday afternoon, May 31, 2026, at approximately 2:31 PM. Responding patrol units rushed to the Coki Point Beach area following panicked 911 emergency calls reporting that a female victim had been stabbed and sliced across her face.
The victim, Chantelle Grant, was discovered bleeding profusely from a significant, deep laceration across her upper lip. Emergency medical personnel stabilized Grant at the scene before rushing her via ambulance to the Roy Lester Schneider Hospital, where medical staff used several stitches to close the gaping wound.
Investigating detectives learned that Grant was working at a commercial establishment on the Coki Point beach when her ex-boyfriend, identified as Kadeem Roumo, arrived and began intentionally provoking her by openly flirting with Aijoma. A heated verbal screaming match rapidly dissolved into a physical brawl. While nearby bystanders and Roumo initially stepped in to separate the two women, the peace was short-lived.
Court records state that Aijoma deliberately circled back, positioning herself directly in the victim's path to spark a second confrontation. During the secondary clash, Grant reported seeing Aijoma reach completely over Roumo’s shoulder, striking her across the face with a concealed sharp object. Grant immediately felt a sharp "slicing sensation" as her face split open.
The Arrest at Coki Point
The next day, Monday, June 1, at approximately 1:38 PM, the convalescing victim observed Aijoma walking freely right back onto Coki Point Beach and immediately dialed 911. VIPD officers descended on the beach, detaining Aijoma on the spot based on Grant’s direct, positive identification.
During a taped interrogation at the Criminal Investigation Bureau, Aijoma admitted to the physical fight, claiming she unleashed a "barrage of punches" to the victim's face after being bumped. While Aijoma insisted she acted in self-defense and denied wielding a weapon, forensic investigators note that the medical evidence completely dismantles her story. Hospital physicians documented that the deep, localized slice to Grant's mouth was entirely consistent with a sharp blade or cutting instrument, rather than a closed fist.
Aijoma is currently remanded to the Bureau of Corrections. She faces formal criminal charges including:
Third-Degree Assault (Title 14 V.I.C. § 297(a)(2))
Simple Assault (Title 14 V.I.C. § 299)
Possession of a Dangerous Weapon During a Crime of Violence (Title 14 V.I.C. § 2251(a)(2)(B))
The VIPD continues to cross-reference local rap sheets and attached records to confirm exactly who they have behind bars.
