ST. CROIX — As the 2026 gubernatorial race heats up following the official filing deadline, the St. Croix Sun is forcing the conversation beyond standard campaign rhetoric and directly into the territory's economic future.

Today, the Sun has officially transmitted an identical, three-question investigative dossier to the prominent Democratic primary campaigns of Lieutenant Governor Tregenza Roach and Delegate to Congress Stacey Plaskett.

The initiative is designed as a balanced, "blind" policy study. Both camps have been given until Friday, May 29, to submit their formal, written strategies on how their respective administrations intend to handle three critical pillars of the modern Virgin Islands economy:

  • Technological Infrastructure: Specific regulatory frameworks to attract global aerospace, tech, and logistics entities to build footprints here, with a particular focus on St. Croix.

  • Energy and Grid Reliability: How a modernized, multi-source power grid will be leveraged as a competitive incentive to pitch the USVI to heavy-tech, energy-dependent corporations.

  • Human Capital: Aligning workforce development and adult education to ensure local Virgin Islanders are first in line for high-paying technical roles.

An Open Floor to All Candidates

The St. Croix Sun is committed to absolute transparency and institutional equity. While these initial inquiries targeted prominent campaigns heading into the August primary, our policy baseline remains completely open to the entire field.

Former Senate President Donna Frett-Gregory, as well as any other officially registered candidate or ticket looking to lead this territory, is highly encouraged to participate. To ensure your campaign receives the identical questionnaire packet immediately, please provide your preferred campaign contact address by emailing us directly at uberman63@gmail.com.

Stay tuned to the Sun this weekend to see which leaders are ready to pitch a modern red carpet for global capital—and who is left standing in the dust.
