ST. CROIX — The VIPD has proven that even a "stale data" file can lead to a $50,000 bail hearing.

Adiel Huertas, 20, was taken into custody Wednesday morning after the Criminal Investigation Bureau and Special Operations Bureau executed arrest and search warrants at his residence. The arrest stems from a May 9, 2025, disturbance at St. Croix Mutual Homes, where Huertas allegedly staged a "gashly" exit that left his dinner—and a loaded magazine—in the hands of responding officers.

The Mutual Homes ‘Huddle’

The investigation began nearly a year ago when officers dispatched to a Grove Place disturbance observed Huertas sitting outside an apartment. Upon their approach, Huertas reportedly abandoned his position, fleeing inside the residence. In his haste, he allegedly left behind his cell phone, a plate of food, and a loaded magazine, signaling a tactical error in his evasion strategy.

Superior Court ‘Constant’

A detective from the Criminal Investigation Bureau tracked the case until March 12, 2026, when a Superior Court Judge signed the necessary warrants. Huertas has now been charged with Possession or Sale of Ammunition.

His bail was set at $50,000, and he was remanded to the John Bell Correctional Facility pending his Advice of Rights hearing tomorrow morning.
