CHARLOTTE AMALIE — A 25-year-old man is behind bars after a midnight traffic stop for a missing license plate led officers to an unlicensed weapon and marijuana contraband.
The incident occurred on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, at approximately 1:05 a.m.. Members of the Special Operations Bureau observed a vehicle traveling "very slowly" west on Julian Jackson Drive without a front license plate.
The Arrest Breakdown:
The "Strong Odor": When the driver, identified as Antonio Camacho, lowered his window, officers immediately detected a strong smell of marijuana coming from the car.
The Search: A subsequent search for contraband uncovered a firearm inside the vehicle.
The Charges: Camacho did not have a license to carry the weapon. He was arrested for Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, and Failure to Securely Attach a License Plate.
Camacho was unable to post a $60,000 bond and was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending his Advice of Rights hearing.
