CHARLOTTE AMALIE — A St. Thomas man is facing multiple felony charges after allegedly tricking a couple into handing over their vehicle and its title under the guise of "disposing" of an unrepairable car, only to flip it for thousands in profit.
The investigation began in May 2025 when the Economic Crimes Unit received a complaint of grand larceny and forgery. According to the VIPD, the victims had contacted Dino Marks, 47, through a social media post advertising vehicle resale services.
The Scam Breakdown:
The "Unrepairable" Lie: After inspecting the car, Marks reportedly told the victims the vehicle was worthless and could not be sold.
The Title Grab: Marks offered to "dispose" of the vehicle for the victims, claiming he needed the Title and Registration to properly junk it.
The Secret Sale: Instead of crushing the car, Marks allegedly made repairs and sold the vehicle for $5,500 without the owners' knowledge or permission.
Marks was arrested and charged with Grand Larceny, Forgery, and Obtaining Money by False Pretense. His bail was set at $10,000, and he was scheduled for an Advice of Rights hearing today, March 20, 2026
