ST. CROIX — A routine Sunday afternoon at the Sunny Isle Shopping Center turned into a "gashly" nightmare for a local mother and her children, leading to the eventual arrest of a man well-known to the island’s social media circles.
Delli Eduardo, 25, was apprehended by detectives on March 17 after a citizen tip placed him at his place of employment. The arrest brings a temporary close to a case that has ignited a firestorm of "Balkanized" commentary online, where Eduardo's alleged reputation for making "one hell of a sandwich" has collided head-on with serious felony charges including Kidnapping and Second-Degree Assault.
The Incident at Sunny Isle
According to VIPD news releases, the ordeal began on March 15, 2026, at approximately 12:20 p.m.. An adult female victim reported that she had agreed to meet Eduardo, a former acquaintance, in the vicinity of Church's Chicken.
The encounter quickly escalated when Eduardo allegedly reached into the victim’s ignition, removed her keys, and confiscated her cellular phone. Deprived of her means of escape or communication, the victim and her minor children were forced back into the vehicle. Eduardo then allegedly drove them against their will from the busy shopping hub to the David Hamilton Housing Terrace.
Investigators disclosed that during the abduction, Eduardo allegedly strangled the victim, leaving visible physical injuries.
CLOSE WATCH: A detailed look at Delli Eduardo, 25, who was arrested Tuesday at his place of employment. Eduardo is accused of hijacking a vehicle at Church's Chicken and strangling a victim in the presence of minor children.
The Manhunt and Capture
Following the report, the 911 Emergency Call Center and VIPD social media channels issued an all-points bulletin for Eduardo, though he initially evaded capture. The stalemate ended Tuesday when detectives from the Criminal Investigation Bureau acted on a tip, locating Eduardo at his workplace.
He was arrested without incident and transported to the Wilbur H. Francis Command, where he declined to provide a statement to police.
Social Media and ‘Sandwich’ Clout
The arrest has highlighted the strange disconnect in the USVI digital landscape. While the charges are severe—Eduardo is currently held without bail at the John Bell Correctional Facility—some social media users have bypassed the "precision of a scholar" to mourn his culinary skills, with one commenter noting he "makes a good sandwich". Others, however, were less forgiving, simply stating, "Dem man need to stop that frig b."
For now, the man some called "Delli Peligroso" is off the streets. Whether he was a "Viking of the Sub Shop" or a danger to the community, he now faces a judge to answer for a crime that turned a family's Sunday into a war zone
