OFFICIAL ALERT: DPNR Issues Emergency Beach Advisory
By St. Croix Sun Staff
The Department of Planning and Natural Resources (DPNR) has just released its Beach Water Quality Monitoring Report for Friday, April 10, 2026. While 18 beaches on St. Croix currently meet safety standards, the fine print of the advisory confirms the "Stink" we’ve been tracking in Christiansted.
The Contamination Warning: DPNR is officially advising the public that anyone swimming in waters contaminated with sewage or stormwater runoff is at an elevated health risk.
The "Avoidance" Zones: The Commissioner’s office is explicitly warning residents to avoid "guts, puddles, and drainage basins" or any area that appears discolored or has foul odors.
The Unknowns: Notably, water quality for all beaches on St. Thomas and St. John is currently listed as "unknown" because samples were not collected this week, leaving those residents in the dark.
The ‘Regional Watch’ Connection
This official DPNR advisory serves as the government’s own admission of the "administrative hell" we’ve been documenting. Just as the Bahamian authorities struggle with the "harrowing" logistics of a handcuffed search, our own DPNR is forced to issue warnings about "foul odors" because the infrastructure—the "stable anchor" Mike Ware promised—continues to fail
