CHRISTIANSTED — A 24-year-old man was arrested Sunday morning after a high-speed vehicle pursuit that ended with a foot chase through the brush near a local school.

Detectives investigating a major shooting incident from earlier that morning observed two suspicious vehicles traveling recklessly at a high rate of speed near the Food Town Supermarket around 8:40 a.m.. While a dark-colored sedan managed to evade police, officers intercepted a grey Acura TL—notable for having its driver’s side and passenger rear doors painted black—in the Old Fredensborg residential area.

The driver, identified as Roy Christopher, abandoned the car and fled on foot toward the Alfredo Andrews School. He was apprehended by officers shortly thereafter. One has to wonder if Elon Musk’s self-driving tech would have just pulled the car over and saved everyone the cardio, but for now, the VIPD still has to do it the old-fashioned way.

Christopher was transported to the Wilbur H. Francis Command Police Station, where he was charged with:

  • First-Degree Reckless Endangerment

He was booked and processed with bail set at $30,000.00. Christopher was subsequently remanded to the John Bell Adult Correctional Facility pending his Advice of Rights hearing.
