KINGSHILL — A Saturday morning homecoming turned into a violent domestic battleground after a local man was allegedly ambushed at his apartment door by his enraged ex-girlfriend, leading to a frantic physical struggle over a cell phone recording, a shattered living room, and a dual-wielded kitchen knife attack.
The suspect, Donna Emmanuel, was arrested by investigators with the VIPD Domestic Violence Unit and charged with first-degree burglary alongside multiple felony assault and property destruction metrics. She was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections without bail pending her Advice of Rights hearing.
The incident began to unfold at approximately 6:30 AM on Saturday, June 6, 2026, when the 911 Emergency Center received an urgent distress call from resident Victor Vargas. Vargas told police he had spent the previous evening watching an NBA basketball game with friends at Sharky's Bait Stand before driving straight back to his apartment at Candido Guadalupe Terrace. As he walked up the stairwell, he spotted Emmanuel driving into the parking lot. Knowing she harbored bad intentions, Vargas rushed to open his front door, but Emmanuel allegedly charged up the stairs, grabbed his jacket, and forced her way inside before he could lock the deadbolt.
Once inside the apartment, the confrontation turned explosive. According to court documents, Emmanuel began screaming profanities, accusing Vargas of infidelity based on a scent on his face. When Vargas laughed and told her she was acting crazy, Emmanuel allegedly became enraged and began kicking and punching him about the body. Vargas managed to temporarily restrain her in a rear bear hug, but upon releasing her, Emmanuel allegedly ran into the kitchen and armed herself with two large knives, swinging them wildly at his face. Vargas successfully dodged the blades and disarmed her by the wrists, prompting Emmanuel to systematically destroy his property, smashing his PlayStation 5 console, his jewelry, his clothes, and a fan onto the floor.
A housemate sleeping in a nearby bedroom, Leonox Williams, was awakened by the sound of shattering glass and tumbling furniture. Stepping into the main area, Williams observed the apartment in total disarray and spotted Emmanuel holding two knives in her hands as she chased Vargas out into the open air, prompting Williams to shout a warning to his roommate to run. Responding Detective Lester Mitchell noted that the apartment was left in absolute shambles, with blood visible on both of Vargas's scratched arms. Vargas provided officers with a critical cell phone video recording capturing Emmanuel refusing repeated commands to vacate the premises.
When interviewed by detectives, Emmanuel presented a completely inverted version of the morning's events. She claimed that she and Vargas had previous plans to meet up at her Frederiksted home. After falling asleep and waking up to three unanswered calls, she grew deeply concerned for his safety and drove to his complex to check on his well-being. Emmanuel alleged that once inside, Vargas became instantly hostile when she questioned his behavior, slamming her to the ground and placing her into two separate, dangerous chokeholds. She vehemently denied ever touching a knife or destroying property, telling investigators the apartment was simply a mess because Vargas is a naturally nasty individual.
Despite her total denial, Assistant Attorney General Katia M. Bouza signed off on a massive six-count domestic violence complaint against Emmanuel. The charges include First-Degree Burglary, Simple Assault and Battery, Carrying or Using a Dangerous Weapon, Third-Degree Assault, Disturbing the Peace, and Destruction of Property. Court filings explicitly state that Emmanuel has a prior criminal record on file with the territory.
