FISH MARKET FOLLY: $100K Bail For F’sted ‘Run-and-Gun’ Suspect
FREDERIKSTED — A year after lead flew near the Frederiksted Fish Market, the bill has finally come due for 19-year-old Donnie Heywood.
Heywood walked into the Wilbur Francis Command Police Station on Thursday to turn himself in, ending a high-stakes search that began when 911 dispatchers reported a chaotic afternoon of gunfire on March 2, 2025. That "run-and-gun" incident left a trail of spent casings and three wounded victims in its wake—two found bleeding at the scene and a third who scrambled to the hospital in a private vehicle.
Detectives from the Criminal Investigation Bureau spent over twelve months sifting through evidence before a Superior Court Judge finally inked an arrest warrant on March 1, 2026.
Heywood now faces a daunting laundry list of felony charges:
⦿ Attempted Murder
⦿ First-Degree Reckless Endangerment
⦿ Carrying a Firearm During a Crime of Violence
⦿ Possession of Ammunition
⦿ First and Third-Degree Assault
Bail is set at a cool $100,000.00. For now, Heywood has traded the Frederiksted streets for a cell at the John Bell Correctional Facility, where he awaits his Advice of Rights hearing.
