VIDHS Issues Critical Deadline Reminder for SNAP Recertification
By JOHN McCARTHY / St. Croix Sun Staff Writer
ST. CROIX — The Virgin Islands Department of Human Services (VIDHS) Division of Family Assistance is urging Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP/CASH) households to submit required documentation immediately to ensure benefits continue without interruption for the May 1st issuance.
The department's Certification Unit issued a formal reminder on Friday that households must stay ahead of the approaching deadlines for Recertification Applications and Periodic Reports. Officials emphasized that missing these specific due dates can lead directly to a suspension of benefit uploads to EBT cards or, in some cases, the complete closure of a case.
The Interview Requirement
A critical component of the process remains the mandatory interview. All applicants are required to undergo an in-person interview at their scheduled date and time. Clients who are unable to attend their scheduled appointment must contact their caseworker to reschedule or to request a telephone interview. Failing to make contact after a missed interview will result in benefit delays.

The Division of Family Assistance, Certification Unit, is currently urging SNAP and CASH benefit clients to submit all necessary recertification documents and periodic reports to this location to avoid a disruption in benefits for the May 1st issuance cycle. While the building remains a central hub for social services on St. Croix, officials remind the public that documents can also be submitted via a secure drop box at the site or through email to ensure deadlines are met. First-Time Applicants and Address Changes
For those applying for the first time, VIDHS advises that application packets must be completed in full and include copies of all mandatory documents to avoid processing lag. Additionally, all clients are responsible for immediately notifying the department of any change in mailing address. Accurate contact information is the only way to ensure households receive appointment notices and benefit-related correspondence.
