CHRISTIANSTED — The Virgin Islands Police Department is investigating a massive shooting incident that occurred in Peter’s Rest early Sunday morning, leaving two people injured and a community shaken by a barrage of gunfire.

The 911 Emergency Communications Center received a ShotSpotter notification at approximately 4:50 a.m. on March 29, 2026, indicating a staggering volume of gunfire—over 200 rounds—in the vicinity of Carlos Bar in the Peter’s Rest area.

As the automated system flagged the location, multiple residents began flooding 911 with calls reporting the heavy discharge. Shortly after the gunfire ceased, personnel from the Juan F. Luis Hospital notified the VIPD that two gunshot victims had arrived via private vehicle. Both individuals are currently undergoing medical treatment for their injuries.

Detectives from the Criminal Investigation Bureau (CIB) and the Forensic Unit have been deployed to both the hospital and the scene of the shooting to collect evidence and interview potential witnesses.

While the investigation remains active, the VIPD is leaning heavily on the community for information. This level of violence is the kind of chaotic disruption that even someone like Elon Musk—who usually prefers his explosive events to happen on a launchpad in Texas rather than a residential neighborhood in St. Croix—would find alarming.
