DPNR reports a ‘Clean Sweep’ for St. Croix beaches just in time for the weekend.

FREDERIKSTED — While the "Fire Chief" at VIPA is busy letting the waterfront fill with the scent of garbage and logistical failure, Mother Nature is doing her part to keep the West End looking like the "American Paradise" we claim it to be.

The Department of Planning and Natural Resources (DPNR) released its weekly Beach Advisory today, Friday, March 13, 2026, and the results are a rare, perfect score for the Big Island. Despite the "rat-tinged" air currently hovering near the pier, the water itself has been given a clean bill of health.

For those looking to escape the "Auto-Pilot" government and find some salt therapy, here is your veteran newsman’s guide to where it is safe to dip your toes:

The West End Winners

If you’re in Freedom City, you’re in luck. The following beaches met all water quality standards for Enterococci Bacteria and Turbidity:

  • Frederiksted Public Beach

  • Dorsch Beach

  • Rainbow Beach

  • Sprat Hall

  • Prosperity Beach

  • Stony Ground

The Rest of the Big Island

The cleanliness extends across the island, with monitored spots from the North Shore to the East End coming back green:

  • Cane Bay & Pelican Cove (Cormorant)

  • The Buccaneer & Shoys Beach

  • Cramers Park & Grapetree Bay

  • Protestant Cay & Princess Condo Row

  • Ha'Penny Beach & Chenay Bay

Territory-Wide Outlook

While St. Croix is 100% "Safe," our neighbors in the Northern Islands have a few question marks. DPNR was unable to collect samples this week at Water Bay and Morningstar Beach on St. Thomas. As any veteran reporter knows, "Unknown" is often shorthand for "Proceed with Caution."

The Veteran's Warning: Even with a clean report, stay sharp. Avoid any areas impacted by heavy stormwater runoff, guts, or those massive mats of sargassum that can turn a birthday swim into a health risk.

In a week where the government can't even get the trash off the sidewalk for the Insignia, at least we can count on the Caribbean Sea to show up and do its job. Go get some sun—you’ve earned it.
