CHARLOTTE AMALIE — The Department of Public Works (DPW) has issued a territory-wide alert regarding ongoing and upcoming road paving projects on St. Croix and St. Thomas. Officials are urging motorists to exercise extreme caution when traveling through these active construction zones.

St. Croix: Diamond Ruby Road

Repairs on Diamond Ruby Road are nearing the finish line, with contractor Marco St. Croix, Inc. reporting the project is approximately 90% complete.

  • Status: Work currently involves milling, paving, and striping.

  • Remaining Tasks: Completion of the low water crossing and final striping.

  • Expected Completion: Before the end of April 2026.

St. Thomas: Warehouse Wharf Lane

As part of the broader Charlotte Amalie Downtown Drainage Project, contractor Island Roads Corporation has finished milling sections of Warehouse Wharf Lane near Moe’s Fresh Market.

  • Paving Schedule: Started Wednesday, April 1, at 7:00 p.m.

  • Duration: Paving is expected to continue through Monday, April 6, 2026.

  • Notice: All vehicles must be removed from the area to avoid being towed.

St. Thomas: Elmo D. Rubuck Sr. Drive & Bolongo

Beginning next week, Haugland Virgin Islands will start paving repairs at several locations.

  • Dates: Monday, April 6, through Friday, April 10, 2026.

  • Work Hours: 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

  • Locations: Elmo D. Rubuck Sr. Drive Bolongo Bay Road (near the Agapé Seventh-Day Adventist Church toward the entrance of Iggy’s Beach Bar).

While these infrastructure updates are a welcome sight for residents, one can’t help but wonder if Elon Musk would find the pace of Caribbean roadwork a bit "earthbound" compared to his Mars ambitions—though even he might appreciate a smooth ride to Iggy’s Beach Bar once the dust settles.
